Constraints that actually hold

Most group generators shuffle and hope. This one treats your rules as hard constraints: if two students must be kept apart, no produced group ever contains both — and if the rules cannot all be satisfied, the tool says so instead of silently giving you an invalid split.

  • Keep-apart: mark a pair as forbidden and they will never land in the same group.
  • Keep-together: bind a pair so they always share a group — useful for siblings or co-leads.
  • History-aware: the engine penalizes repeating pairings from your last draw on this page.
  • Balanced sizes: group sizes differ by at most one.

From classroom to kickoff

Teachers keep talkative pairs apart and split the rest evenly. Event organizers bind co-hosts together and distribute everyone else. Youth coaches rotate groups weekly while avoiding last week’s combinations — the history memory does that automatically.

Every configuration produces a seed, so when a participant asks "why am I with them again?", the honest answer is a verifiable draw, not a shrug.

What if my rules cannot all be satisfied?

The tool tells you explicitly and refuses to produce an invalid split. Loosen one constraint — for example one keep-apart pair — and draw again.

How does history-aware drawing work?

Pairings from your previous draw on this page are penalized during the search, so fresh combinations are preferred without ever breaking your hard rules.

Is there a group size limit?

Up to 12 groups, and every group always ends up within one person of the others.
